2 More Aspirants Drop From NPP Race

Buckman Akuffo, a senior lecturer of the Koforidua Technical University, who was vying for the position of the Eastern Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has withdrawn from the race.

His withdrawal from the race has paved the way for the former NITA boss, Jeff Konadu Addo, to go unopposed.

The incumbent regional secretary also withdrew from the race after vetting and backed Mr Addo.

Mr Buckman, in a press statement noted that “I write to express my deep appreciation to the many well-wishers in my quest to serve our party as Eastern Regional Secretary. After some consultation I have decided to withdraw from the race to pave way for yet another unopposed candidate in the common interest of all.”

Jeff Konadu Addo subsequently thanked the party members for the dedication.

He said, “I am sincerely grateful to all of you for such strong support. Mr Akuffo has personally spoken to me of his decision to withdraw from the race. While I am grateful for his decision to withdraw, I also want to congratulate him and wish him luck in future endeavors.”

Another contender, Yusif Yonah Ahmed, who was challenging the incumbent Regional Organizer, Kwame Appiah Kodua, who doubles as regional NADMO boss, also stepped down last week.

Currently, the Regional Chairman, Jerry Osei-Opoku, Regional Youth Organizer, Ben Kumi, Treasurer and Yaw Palin, Assistant Secretary, Kwame Appiah Kodua, Organizer, and Jeff Konadu Addo are all going unopposed.

After the vetting process, three persons out of 25 aspirants, who submitted nomination forms to contest for the various positions, were disqualified.

The disqualified persons include Paul Amaning, who was challenging the incumbent Regional Chairman, Kiston Akomeng Kissi, Eric Dansah Appiah, a patron from Akim-Oda, who wanted to be treasurer and Stephen Kwarteng, who was contesting for Assistant Secretary position.

The vetting committee chairman, Abankwa Yeboah, said Mr Amaning didn’t have the capacity to contest Mr Kissi, a former MP for Akwatia.

The Regional First Regional Vice Chairman Alhaji Umar Bodinga is fiercely being challenged by Michael Oteng Adu, former New Juaben South NPP Constituency Chairman.

The Second Vice Chairmanship position is also being contested keenly by three aspirants- Richard Twum Barimah, Seth Otchere and James Appietu-Ankrah.

The Deputy Regional Women’s Organizer Fati Vondolie is being challenged by Mercy Amo Darkoah, aka Obour and Josephine Sampson, aka Iron Lady, former New Juaben South NPP Women’s Organizer.

Four aspirants- Hussien  Mohammed Fadilu, Alhaji  Suraju Osman, Yakubu  Mohammed, Kassim Alhassan and Sualihu Mohammed. Sualihu, alias SMS, are also contesting for the Nasara Coordinator position.
