THREE OUT of 20 people who travelled from Kumasi to attend a wedding at Nungua decided to swim at the Nungua beach but unfortunately two of them got drowned in the sea.
The bodies of the victims aged between 17 and 22 are yet to be found.
The sad incident took place on Sunday, December 2. The only survivor of the tragedy recounted: “I saw them going far from the shore in a happy mood as they were enjoying their swimming session but they could not withstand the pressure and the fast movement of the sea waves.”
According to him, the lifeguard attempted rescuing the three of them, but he realized his own life was in danger and had no choice than to let them go.
Confirming the incident in Accra, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) said the police received the information regarding the incident around 5:30 pm last Sunday, adding that efforts were being made to retrieve the bodies of the three young men.
She said a team had been deployed to search and retrieve the bodies.
