Chereponi Health Workers Flee To Togo Over Clashes

Some motorbikes burnt in Chereponi

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that health workers in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region have fled the area due to the clashes between the Chokosis and Konkombas.

The District Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurse and Midwives, Mahamud Ibrahim, told the media that the health workers do not feel safe in the area.

“Almost all of us have left except a few that are giving emergency care to the casualties.”

According to him, the majority of the health workers travelled to neighbouring Togo through a town called Mango which is some few meters away from Chereponi.

However, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, indicated that there’s little the police can do to stop people from fleeing from the Chereponi District.

He revealed that the conflict had led to the destruction of many houses in the area, which has forced people to go to nearby towns to seek shelter.

Reports suggest the Chokosis and Konkombas are fight over a piece of land in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region.

Over 150 houses have burnt, with death toll at about 15.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the pregnant women in some deprived communities in the Chereponi District cannot access any health facility due to the violence.

Women and children in the affected communities have also travelled to Tamale and Togo to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, three persons have been arrested by the police in connection with the violent clashes.
