China Step Into ‘One District, One Factory’

H.E. Shi Ting Wang, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana

Newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Shi Ting Wang, has promised his country’s unflinching support for Ghana’s economic development initiatives.

He mentioned that initiatives such as ‘One District, One Factory’, ‘One Village, One Dam’ and ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ shall receive massive support from his government. Besides, his government shall help Ghana build an economic system beyond aid.

H.E. Shi Ting Wang said his country would focus on cooperation in equipment manufacturing, production capacity, and infrastructure and explore new areas and models of cooperation to accelerate the connectivity of its development strategies.

He pointed out that as the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, he would work closely with Ghana to make unremitting efforts for the continued development of China-Ghana cooperation and friendship.

At the reception in honor of his assumption of office in Accra on Friday, he described this year as big, saying “this year is the ‘big year’ of China-Africa relations”.

The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) which will be held in September will surely become a new milestone in the development of China-Africa relations.

Leaders and representatives of more than 50 African countries will gather in Beijing and jointly plan the future of China-Africa relations with Chinese leaders on the theme “win-win cooperation and build a closer community of shared future between China and Africa”. It will help inject new connotation into China-Africa relations and cooperation.

He added “we will hold a donation ceremony in this month for the installation of satellite TV receiving system and equipment in 300 villages in Ghana; people from 300 remote villages in Ghana will enjoy free satellites TV.

“China has implemented and continues to implement several aid projects, within which the project of 1,000 boreholes has nearly been completed, benefitting 300,000 people at grassroots level in Ghana.

“These 1,000 boreholes, costing US$20 million, is a big aid project. You might not see them here, but they directly benefit large number of people at grassroots level because they are scattered across the country. In April 2018, the two sides signed an agreement for the Jamestown Fishing Port Complex Project, which is expected to start off in the next few months,” he disclosed.

He noted that regardless of how the international situation changes in the future, China would continue to uphold its African policy featuring sincerity, concrete results, affinity, and good faith and the policy of upholding justice and pursuing shared interests.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration,   Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, who was the Guest of Honor, said the relationship between the two countries dated back to the 1960s.

She expressed gross appreciation for the support and said she was looking forward to fruitful working relations.

Also present at the high profile reception were Freddie Blay, Chairman, NPP; Yaw Osafo Marfo, Senior Minister; Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Accra Mayor; Members of Parliament; Members of the Diplomatic Corps; and leaders of the Chinese community, among others.
