Chinese Embassy Builds $200,000 School Projects In Awisa

CHINESE AMBASSADOR to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang has inaugurated a number of China-funded renovated school projects in the Eastern Region.

The projects are the Akyem-Awisa Methodist Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School classroom blocks, as well as a toilet facility and a school park in the Birim South District of the region.

An amount of $200,000 is reported to have been spent on the projects by the Chinese Embassy in Accra.

A Chinese firm, Qingijan International Development Company Limited, did the renovation works.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador, Shi Ting Wang encouraged students within the beneficiary school to study hard to enable them contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Ghana.

Chief of Akyem Awisa, Nana Kwarten Karikari III, expressed gratitude to the Chinese for their kind gesture, and like Oliver Twist, appealed for more of their assistance for the establishment of a technical and vocational training institute in the town.

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, whose initiative resulted in the renovation, lauded the ambassador for the project.

He indicated that the creation of the park, for instance, had motivated him to form a football club in Akyem Awisa to be known as Kantanka Football Club for children aged between nine and 15.

The Director General of Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, an alumnus of the Akyem Awisa Methodist School, promised to provide a computer laboratory for the school by close of 2019.

He stated that he would ensure that the school was put on the list of model schools.

The Methodist School since its inception in 1953 has not seen renovation until in August 2018 when the Chinese Envoy promised to rehabilitate it.
