The now single digit inflation figures did not drop like manna from heaven. It is the outcome of engineered efforts by persons well versed in treating diseased economies occasioned by bad governance.
When during the heat of the campaign for political power the then running mate to the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia told Ghanaians that the ailing economy could be treated and indeed turned around, propagandists on the other side rubbished it. They claimed there was nothing amiss adding that the situation was the result of a global phenomenon with no root in incompetence.
As the government heads towards midterm of the four years allotted it by the good people of this country, we are beginning to witness the fruits of the political labour of the President and his team.
The double digits remained the feature of the country’s economy for many years and for many they thought it was irreversible because as a people we have been doomed. The wise said it is about leadership and competence.
The measures put in place by government to ensure the results we are registering today have vindicated the President and his team who said the situation in Ghana is not a hopeless story but one which  required a team of dedicated persons who understand economics and are ready to take on the challenges head on. This prescription and the impetus of discipline and the avoidance of corruption would certainly ensure positive results.
Single digit inflation figures for the uninitiated might sound abstract or even gibberish when they still see the unemployment figures not yet within tolerable range. Without such economic developments, the visible changes in the lives of the citizenry would not be realized. At this stage only the economists understand what has been achieved and for them, government needs a pat on the back.
If there is any government which has within a short time had its prescription change things almost overnight, it is the team at the helm today.
That the government has been able to settle the bad cases of indebtedness in respect of many a state agency and make the kind of progress it has chalked is a feat that should be etched in the annals of the country’s governance.
It is when the effects of such developments as the single digit inflation figures and many others yet to make their way on the public space, trigger the economic takeoff of the country that those who easily fall for the propaganda of those who brought Ghana on her knees would appreciate the many milestones traversed.
We wish to counsel government to remain focused and avoid being distracted by the killjoys because, after all, that is their stock-in-trade.
