Ghana Qualify For AFCON 2019 …CAF Strips Cameroun Hosting Rights …South Africa, Egypt To Host?

Ghana’s Black Stars

Ghana’s Black Stars have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned Sierra Leone from the qualifiers.

CAF’s confirmation of Leone Stars’ expulsion following the suspension of the country by FIFA handed Ghana qualification for the 32nd edition of the biennial event scheduled for June 15 to July 13.

Ghana thus qualifies alongside Group F leaders, Kenya who sits on the summit with seven points, a point adrift Kwasi Appiah’s men.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president, Nick Mwendwa revealed that CAF took the decision to remove Sierra Leone after an Executive Committee meeting last Friday.

He said “The Extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of CAF met in Accra, Ghana on Friday (November 30).

“One of the decisions made at the meeting was to remove Sierra Leone from the list of competitors in our group.

“We are now waiting for the official letter from CAF, but we have already qualified. We expect the letter from CAF this week.”

Ghana joins Kenya, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, Mali, Guinea, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Mauritania and Madagascar at the finals.

Meanwhile, CAF has stripped original hosts-Cameroun of hosting the event due to delay regarding preparations.

It has emerged that Egypt, South Africa or Morocco have been shortlisted to host next June’s soccer festival.
