A Citation presented to Lawyer John Kumah at UDS
John Kumah, Executive Director of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), says his outfit will train 500 students from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in entrepreneurship.
Under the programme, incubation hubs would be established in other universities across the country.
According to Mr Kumah, government has set aside about $10 million for the training of over 7,000 students across the 10 regions of the country.
He said the training forms part of government’s resolve to reduce graduate unemployment by equipping students with the necessary skills.
The students would be trained on how to write business proposals, identify potentials and promote businesses.
A total of between GH?10,000 and GH?100,000 has been set aside to be given to the trainees as startup capital, and trainees below the age of 35 years would be given a five-year tax holiday.
A lecture at the University for Development Studies, Abdul Rashid, said the aim of the training is to provide practical knowledge to students, and give them the opportunity to identify problems in society and come out with possible solutions.
He was optimistic the projects of students would be developed and executed.
Mr Rashid revealed that some of the projects of the students had already been adopted by institutions and resource persons.
However, Abdul Rashid indicated that the school is yet to receive any funding from government to support the projects of the students.
Some students of the school, who spoke to BUSINESS GUIDE, expressed their gratitude to government for the initiative.
They lauded the move by government, saying it would help reduce the high graduate unemployment.
