Salah, First African To Strike 30 Goals

Mohamed Salah

More than just a goal machine, Mohamed Salah is becoming something of a serial record-breaker too.

The Egyptian’s looping header against Bournemouth was his 30th Premier League goal and 40th strike overall in 2017-18, a goal, which saw him break multiple records.

Salah is the first African player to score 30 goals in a Premier League season, bettering Didier Drogba’s return of 29 for Chelsea from the 2009-10 season.

Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’ also became just the third player in the club’s history to score 40 goals or more in a season, joining Roger Hunt (1961-62) and Ian Rush (1983-84 and 1986-87).

If that wasn’t enough, he also became the first player to score 30 league goals in Europe’s big five leagues this season.

Although Salah has stolen many of the headlines at Anfield this season, he is not alone in his devastating attacking endeavours.

Something of a forgotten man this season, Sadio Mane has been quietly ticking along and posting impressive numbers himself.
