Tipper Truck Drivers Wail

Owusu Sekyere

Members of the Baah Yard Tipper Truck Drivers Association have criticized the Victory Bible Church for constructing a wall at its Awoshie headquarters to hamper their operations in the area.

According to the association, the church constructed the wall in the middle of the road, making it unmotorable.

As a result, the leadership of the association has made a passionate appeal to the Accra Mayor Mohammed Adjei Sowah to, as a matter of urgency, pull down the wall to make the road accessible.

In a press conference at its office in Baah Yard, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, the Association’s Secretary said, “We are not happy about activities of the church at all, as you can see; the wall is right in the middle of the road. Should there be fire outbreak in the area, access to the affected house or houses would be extremely difficult or impossible.

“Our question is why should they construct the wall at night under armed police supervision, if they consider their activities as legal?”

The secretary added that “the distance between the newly-constructed wall and the High Tension Pole is less than 10 yards, contrary to the required 50 yards, which attracted the attention of GRIDCO, yet no action has been taken.”

At the press conference, members wielded placards with inscriptions such as ‘Victory Bible Church, Be Law Abiding,’ ‘Love your neigbours as yourselves.’
