1 Dead, 2 Arrested Over New Ya Naa

INFORMATION REACHING DAILY GUIDE indicates that one Mohammed Hassan Gaddafi, a staff of the Audit Service in Tamale, has been shot dead in a fire exchange between some unknown gunmen and security personnel in Yendi in the Northern Region.

Hassan Gaddafi was confirmed dead by medical staff on duty at the emergency block of the Yendi Hospital. His body has since been sent to the morgue for preservation.

Two unidentified gunmen, who were arrested with an AK 47 assault rifle, have since refused to disclose their identity to the police.

The Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said at about 9:25 pm on Friday, as the rituals were about to  commence at the Gbewaa Palace in line with the  customs  and traditions  of the enskinment of the newly selected Yaa-Naa, Yoo-Naa Abubakar Mahama II, there were sudden sporadic shootings from unknown gunmen from an abandoned building located a few metres away from the main Gbewaa Palace where the rites were being performed. This happened in spite of the presence of security personnel.

According to the police PRO, security personnel on the ground returned fire toward the said direction and pursued the shooters inside the building after which the police cum military team surrounded it.

DSP Mohammed Yusif said the unknown gunmen were arrested with an AK47 rifle in the abandoned house.

However, the performance of the enskinment rites continued with drumming and firing of musketry amid tight security.

No other casualties were recorded during the shooting between the unknown gunmen and the security personnel.
