The Greater Accra Regional Minister in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces will deploy about 1,000 personnel in the Metropolitan, Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region for the enforcement of by-laws.

These personnel would work closely with the security agencies such as the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to help achieve the objective of the programme.

These initiatives were among several others disclosed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, when he paid a working visit to the National Service Secretariat (NSS) in Accra with some officials of the Regional Coordinating Council.

He said “these trained personnel would help in the implementation of by-laws. They are out now from the training, having gone through very rigorous training at Bondase. For instance, we are deploying about 300 of them in Accra, others to Circle and other strategic areas in the metropolis to help ensure law and order. They will be part of the assembly and would work together with the police.”

The recruitment, he said, “was not based on any political colour, not based on certificate, they are jobs for Ghanaians and not jobs for the boys. It was solely based on one’s fitness and the willingness to serve mother Ghana.”

According to him, about 3,500 personnel are expected to be recruited by August 2022.

He also mentioned the establishment of a secretariat in all the 29 MMDAs as part of efforts to sustain ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ and also address sanitation problems facing residents of Accra.

He stated, “These secretariats will constitute a call centre that will work 24 hours, people can send pictures and information on sanitation, especially on overfull bins, traffic issues among others in real time for them to be tackled in real time.”

“Based on what I have seen from the NSS, if we collaborate, we may end up saving the tax payers lots of money, I have seen the construction work done by these young ones.  These young ones from the technical universities and other tertiary institutions where architects, surveyors, etc. are trained can all be engaged to support these wonderful programmes,” he disclosed.

Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat, Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi, in his opening remarks pledged to continuously support ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ in the area of monitoring, education and compliance with personnel whenever the need arises.
