13 Hospitalised Over Food Poison

 

THIRTEEN PEOPLE have been rushed to the hospital after allegedly eating suspected contaminated food.

The victims, reportedly consumed ‘waakye’, a local rice and beans dish, at Atwedie in the Asante Akyem Municipality.

The victims showed symptoms such as vomiting, stomach ache, nausea and uneasiness minutes after eating the food.

The unfortunate and scary incident happened on Monday, October 9, 2023, DAILY GUIDE has been reliably informed.

All the 13 people, including the ‘waakye’ seller, were hospitalised, but they were discharged same day.

The Ashanti Regional Environmental Health Officer, John Yaw Donkor, confirmed the incident to Asaase Radio, Kumasi.

He said they had report that 13 people ate from the same source and they instantly developed some complications.

Mr. Donkor said his outfit, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) rushed to the scene.

According to him, through investigations, it was revealed that the 13 people ate ‘waakye’ and developed the symptoms.

“The 13 people, including the ‘waakye’ seller were discharged after being hospitalised for hours,” he disclosed.

Mr. Donkor said his outfit and other authorities concerned could not get access to the ‘waakye’ for laboratory testing.

He added that the ‘waakye’ seller would be prevented from selling for a while until the case was properly investigated.
