13 Perish Near Ebony’s Crash Spot

The mangled Ford

TWELVE MALES and one female have been confirmed dead after a Ford vehicle that they were traveling with collided with an oncoming cargo truck at dawn on Monday.

The gory crash occurred at Akwatiakrom, near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region – on the Kumasi/Sunyani Highway.

The latest crash reportedly occurred close to the spot where the famous female musician, Ebony Reigns and her two friends lost their lives through a similar crash recently.

Eyewitnesses told this paper that the Ford, which was travelling at top speed from the Sunyani direction, suddenly veered off its lane and crashed head-on with the oncoming truck.

The impact of the crash was said to be so strong that it led to the sudden death of 13 out of 14 people, including the driver and his mate.

All the 13 were taken to the Mankranso Government Hospital and other nearby medical facilities for preservation and autopsy. However, none of those on board the cargo truck lost his life.

According to the eyewitnesses, the crash made a deafening noise, which attracted several curious people to the scene, where most of the passengers had been trapped in the Ford vehicle.

They said fire fighters and police personnel who were called to the scene had to cut parts of the vehicle before the casualties could be brought out.

The eyewitnesses said they suspected that the driver of the Ford was dozing off and that might have resulted in his vehicle veering off its lane.

Meanwhile, the only survivor on board the Ford is said to be in critical condition and is being treated at one of the health facilities in the area.
