16 Die In Gory Accident At Yapei

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that 16 persons have been confirmed dead following an accident involving a Neoplan and Cargo vehicles at Yapei-Yipala in the Northern Region.

The dead persons have since been transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Several passengers who were injured were also rushed to the same health facility for treatment.

The Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said at about 1:42 am Sunday, the driver (name not yet known) of a Neoplan bus with registration number GW 2659 T with 70 passengers on board, was traveling from Nalerigu to Ejura.

According to ASP Tanko, upon reaching a section of the road at Yapei-Yipala on the Tamale-Buipe Highway, the driver attempted to overtake a cargo truck ahead of him and in the process, the vehicle crashed with an oncoming bus with registration number GM 5383-12.

In a related development, a motor accident has occurred at Savelugu between Diare and Gushie, claiming two lives.

The accident involved a motor King loaded with firewood from Diare and a cargo truck loaded with lumber from Savelugu.

According to the police, preliminary investigation had revealed that the rope tiring the firewood got snapped and the rider lost his balance, veering into the lane of the heavily loaded truck.

One of the victims was crushed beyond recognition and the pieces could not be picked to the morgue.

The other victim, who was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital in an ambulance, also died later.
