Kwame Amoah and Sampson Zabanga
Two men have died in a violent road rage incident at Ayeduase near the Kwame Nkrumah University Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, police in the Ashanti Region have said.
ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Public Relations Office of the Command, said Sampson Zabanga, 31, who was in charge of a Kia saloon car, allegedly chased and fatally shot Kwame Amoah, 52, during an argument on Tuesday before killing himself with the same gun.
This, according to the police spokesman, occurred after a heated argument ensued between the two which degenerated into fisticuffs.
He narrated that Zabanga, in the ensuing melee, rushed back to his car, picked a pistol and shot Amoah thrice in the abdomen, leaving him unconscious and bleeding profusely.
Residents who witnessed the tragic incident, rushed to the scene and attempted to lynch Zabanga in retaliation.
Zabanga then took refuge in his car, which was pelted with stones, and sensing danger from the mob, shot himself in the head.
ASP Ahianyo said the two were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for treatment, but unfortunately, both died on admission.
Eyewitnesses
Some eyewitnesses indicated that Zabanga first confronted Amoah after accusing him of careless driving around 7:30 am on Tuesday.
Zabanga, looking angry, instantly replied Amoah with a slap, before rushing into his vehicle to pick a 16-round foreign pistol, which he fired Amoah with in the abdomen, in the full glare of the public.
Eyewitnesses said the frightening incident got other road users running helter-skelter to take cover.
