2 Killed In Cape Coast Crash

Two persons have been killed in an accident that occurred near Ameen Sangari Factory along the Takoradi-Cape Coast Road.

The accident occurred when a Hyundai Maxi Bus collided with a Man Diesel truck.

Chief Supt Richard Appiah, Western Regional Director of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) said that the unfortunate incident happened yesterday at about 2am.

He mentioned that Douglas Opoku, 39, was driving the Hyundai Maxi Bus with registration number GW 9656-17 with 33 passengers on board from Takoradi to Accra.

He indicated that upon reaching a location near the Ameen Sangari Factory after the University of Cape-Coast (UCC) East Gate on the main highway, the driver reportedly decided to overtake a vehicle just after a curve.

In the process, the bus collided head-on with the oncoming MAN Diesel Container truck with registration number GR1553-15, which was loaded with frozen fish from Tema to Elmina.

A man died on the spot while a woman also died upon arrival at the hospital.

The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue for identification and autopsy.

Chief Supt Appiah revealed that Douglas Opoku, the driver of the truck one Nicholas Abakah and other passengers sustained various degrees of injury.

According to the medical practitioners, four of the injured persons were in critical condition.

“In total 32 persons are receiving treatment and two dead. Both vehicles got damaged and some items on the truck were destroyed,” the police chief added.
