2 Money Doublers Arrested

The police have arrested two persons suspected to be engaged in money doubling, money laundering and fraud.

The suspects are Augustine Adjorlolo, 29, who claims to be a spiritualist and a native of Klikor Agbozume in the Volta Region, and Wisdom Aryee, a 26-year-old taxi driver from Sogakope.

Some quantities of dollar and cedis notes suspected to be fake, and a pump action gun with 14 BB cartridges were found on them upon their arrest.

According to the Accra Regional Police, two persons who claimed they had been defrauded by the suspects reported the case against them on March 7.

Preliminary investigation showed that the suspects placed advertisement of their nefarious activities in the media and through that the victims were able to contact them.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Effia Tenge, told DAILY GUIDE that the complainants reported to the Nima Police Station that the suspects defrauded them of a total of GH¢7,300 after promising to double the amount to GH¢500,000.

She said on March 15, the two suspects were arrested upon a tip-off at their hideout at Owurem, near Asamankese in the Eastern Region.

DSP Tenge said a search in their rooms led to the discovery of a black bag containing bundles of papers cut in the shape of cedis and dollars.

She said six bundles of five dollar denomination, five bundles of 10 cedis denomination, five bundles of 20 cedis denomination, and two bundles of two cedis denomination were taken as exhibits.

“On top and bottom of each bundle of cash is a real currency each arranged nicely as well as a Murburg pump action gun with 14 BB cartridges.

“Two vehicles including a Kia Picanto taxi cab with registration number GG2240-18 and a Toyota Venza 4X4 with registration number GG295-19 which were in the possession of suspects were also brought to the police station,” the regional PRO added.

She said the police suspected several persons might have fallen victim to the nefarious activities of the suspects and urged the public to volunteer information.
