The Tesano Divisional police have apprehended two friends who have allegedly defrauded some people under the pretext of securing them visas to travel to countries of their choices.
The suspects are 48-year-old Kwabena Adu-Adjei, a self-styled pastor from Great God Worship Centre at Asafan and Abletor Samuel, 33-year-old trader. The two suspects were arrested in their various hideouts at Asafan and Niiboi Town in Accra on Friday, May 18, 2018.
Eight passports, together with a number of passport pictures belonging to unsuspecting individuals, were found in their rooms when their respective houses were searched by the police.
Briefing the media, Chief Superintendent Oduro-Amening, Tesano Divisional Commander, said police received a complaint from a victim that sometime in November last year, the two suspects approached him and promised to get him a German visa if he gave them GH¢12,000, after he had expressed interest in travelling abroad.
The victim said he gave them GH¢5,750 together with his passport and promised to pay the rest of the money to them if they got him the visa.
After collecting the money, the victim said the two suspects went into hiding and were never seen again.
The victim said after all efforts to trace them had failed, he realised he had been defrauded and reported the matter to the police.
Chief Superintendent Oduro-Amening said after receiving the information on May 16, 2018, police intelligence led to their arrest two days later.
The suspects have admitted the offence and added that the victim’s passport was at the Turkish Embassy.
They are still in police custody assisting in investigation.
Meanwhile, the commander has appealed to individuals who might have fallen victim to the nefarious activities of the suspects to report at the Tesano or the nearest police station.
