2 ‘Wee’ Policemen Interdicted, 2 Promoted

TWO POLICE officers who were caught dealing in substances suspected to be Indian hemp, popularly known as ‘wee’, have been interdicted by the police administration.

The police officers are General Sergeant (G/Sgt) Lotsu Agbeko, an officer stationed at the Formed Police Unit (FPU) in Accra and G/Sgt Isaac Nii Sowah, aka One Day, stationed at the Accra Regional Police Command.

Sgt Agbeko was arrested on Tuesday noon in possession of 84 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from his car, while Sgt Sowah was captured on video smoking a substance suspected to be Indian hemp while in uniform.

Police reports indicated that suspect G/Sgt Lotsu Agbeko failed to stop at the Have Police Barrier when he was signaled by the officers on duty to do so.

“He was therefore given a chase and on reaching a section of the road on the Kpeve Mountain, he was involved in an accident and had a fracture on his left hand,” a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service signed by Chief Superintendent Grace Ansah–Akrofi indicated.

“Suspect police officer was arrested and sent to the hospital for treatment and has since been transferred to the Police Hospital for further medical attention where he is under guard,” it disclosed, adding that the 84 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp retrieved from suspect’s car will be used as exhibits in court after investigation.

She said suspect will be put before the court as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.

Suspect Sowah, on the other hand, was captured on a viral video smoking some substances suspected to be Indian hemp while in police uniform.

He was allegedly videoed by one of the suspected wee smokers who suspected him to be sneak, leaking information about their activities to the police.

In the viral video, suspect One Day was seen smoking the substance while preventing a colleague smoker from taking the footage.

He denied in the video that he was a sneak, when the said colleague smoker, after accusing him, had threatened to expose him.

Information from the police administration after Sergeant One Day’s arrest indicated he will be taken through the necessary disciplinary and legal action.

In addition, the police administration said suspect will be given the necessary psycho-social support in line with the new strategic police welfare policy.

Meanwhile, two other police officers have been promoted by the police administration for the professional roles they played in the arrest of G/Sgt Lotsu Agbeko.

A statement issued and signed by the Director in charge of the Public Affairs Directorate, Chief Superintendent Grace Ansah-Akrofi said the police administration has promoted Inspector Azumah Komla Justice and No. 52543 G/L/CpL Felix Diameh to the rank of Chief Inspector and Corporal respectively.

“We commend the driver who availed his vehicle to the police to chase and arrest the suspect, and once again commend the police officers for their patriotism, vigilance and dedication to duty.”
