Over 20 pupils from Prampram D/A Basic ‘B’ and Methodist Freeman Basic School in the Greater Accra Region were hospitalised on Monday, April 14, after collapsing during class hours.
Witnesses reported seeing several children running in distress before collapsing. Cause of Incident Preliminary reports indicate that the pupils had consumed “Asana”, a local corn drink sold by a vendor in the area.
The vendor has also been hospitalised. Further investigation revealed that the affected pupils are being treated at the Prampram Polyclinic, where medical personnel are closely monitoring their condition.
The Ningo-Prampram District Health Directorate has launched an investigation in collaboration with parents and school authorities to determine the cause of the incident and ensure the safety of other pupils.
