The suspect lying dead in a bush
A 22-year-old man, identified only as Awineme, has been lynched by irate youth at Aburokyire, a farming community in the Offinso area of the Ashanti Region, after allegedly murdering a farmer and severely injuring a chief in a machete attack.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, reportedly began when Awineme allegedly attacked and killed Osei Kwabena, a caretaker farmer of the chief, in a bush.
According to a resident who spoke to the DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview, the suspect returned home shortly after the alleged killing, drenched in blood, and reportedly announced that he had murdered Osei Kwabena.
The resident said when the chief, Nana Osei Bonsu, attempted to find out what had happened, Awineme allegedly turned on him and attacked him with a machete.
“He came home drenched in blood. He announced that he had killed Osei Kwabena, so when the chief tried to understand the situation, he started attacking him,” the resident recounted.
Nana Osei Bonsu reportedly sustained severe machete wounds and was rushed to St. Patrick Hospital in Offinso, where he is said to be battling for his life.
The injuries to the chief are reportedly so severe that doctors may have to amputate one of his hands.
The resident further disclosed that after attacking the chief, the suspect allegedly attempted to attack another person in the community.
His actions reportedly angered some of the youth, who attempted to restrain him.
However, according to the witness, all efforts to stop him proved futile, compelling some of the youth to resort to beating him with sticks.
The suspect subsequently died from injuries sustained during the mob attack.
The bodies of the two deceased persons have since been deposited at the morgue, while the police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder, the attack on the chief and the subsequent lynching of the suspect.
