Dr. Hilarious A.K Abiwu
The Deputy Director of Public Health Directorate in the Northern Region, Dr. Hilarious A.K Abiwu, has revealed that 284,377 people have so far been vaccinated representing 4.9 percent of the total vaccination age group in the region from March ,2021 to December 20,2021.
According to him, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has plans to vaccinate about 1,263,420 people representing 63.01% of out 2,005,431 targeted people in the region.
Dr. Abiwu further outlined plans by the directorate to roll out some vaccines during the Christmas and the new year period so that many people can get vaccinated.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Tamale, Dr. Abiwu said even though the Covid-19 situation in the region is currently looking good, there is the need for the public to continue to adhere to the safety protocols.
He noted that last year around this time, the situation was similar but immediately after the festive season, cases of infections surged, hence the public must not let their guard down.
The Deputy Director of the Public Health Directorate indicated that the region has so far since the start of the pandemic recorded 1,774 positive cases out of which 31 persons died but was quick to add that the region does not have any active cases of Covid 19.
He admonished the general public especially residents of Tamale and Sagnarigu to get vaccinated as the majority of the Covid-19 cases in the region were recorded in these areas.
