A three-Day Africa bitcoin conference which opened in Accra last Friday December 1, 2023 has ended with a call on Africans especially the youth to embrace bitcoin as an innovative technology designed for economic transformation.
The second edition of the Africa bitcoin conference organised by Africa Bitcoin Community (ABC), seeks to raise awareness on the opportunities and benefits of bitcoin in the economic transformation of individuals and businesses in the subregion.
The conference also seeks to share innovative ideas from some bitcoin miners and individual tech experts on the development and perspectives of the future of bitcoin since its introduction several years ago.
The event which ended on Sunday December 3, also offered opportunity for hundreds of people who attended the conference to network, discuss as well as explore opportunities that were available with the use of bitcoin.
Dozens of speakers from various continent were present to share thier perspectives on bitcoin as an emerging financial technology introduced to boost trading irrespective of political and economic borders.
Renowned computer scientist and Founder of Ghana dot com who spoke on the role of bitcoin for economic development said technologies are catalyst for development regardless of the perspectives that may arise on the global front.
According to him, such changes like bitcoin should have “open participation and open documents refering to them as “technoliberations” which require a critical mass of expertise.
He stated that it was therefore imperative for such a conferences to be convened to help discuss current as well as emerging technologies.
Farida Nabourema, convener and Executive Director of ABC said though bitcoin do not require a regulatory framework to help address the concerns of miners typically associated with the traditional financial institutions, there were however protocols that were required for bitcoin transactions.
The Grand Arena of the Accra International conference centre was not only filled to capacity on Sunday as scores of people including musicians joined to climax the three-day conference but they also expressed their delight for the networks established as well as insight on bitcoin from over 70 speakers as they go back to their respective countries.
