3 Highway Robbers Busted

The suspects

Three young men have been arrested by the Nyinahin District police in the Ashanti Region following an alleged armed robbery operation on the Afepaye-Nyinahin trunk road on Monday.

Dramani Seidu, 24; Richard Bromyiwaa, 25 and Joseph Gyimah aka Agyaku, 24, were arrested at Appiakrom, a village near Nyinahin, three days after the incident that occurred near the Asanayo forest.

DCOP Fred Adu Anim, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who announced this yesterday at a press briefing, said the suspected robbers attacked a 207 Sprinter bus that was carrying passengers.

The bus, which is registered WR 844 X, according to DCOP Adu Anim, was fired at by the trio who were wielding two single barrel guns and compelled its driver to stop.

The police chief disclosed that an unspecified sum of money and over 20 pieces of assorted mobile phones were stolen in the incident that happened at about 4:30 am.

DCOP Anim said the passengers and the driver were made to lie down on the road, whilst the suspects robbed them of their personal belongings before bolting with their booty.

He continued that luck, however, eluded them when the police had intelligence of their whereabouts and arrested them on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Appiakrom, a village near Nyinahin, in the Atwima Mponua District.

A search conducted in their room revealed that the two single barrel guns, two BB cartridges, one AAA cartridge, 20 assorted phones, 7 wrappers of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, GH?1,350, one lighter, sachets of tramadol capsules and a torchlight were retrieved, the police commander said.

He stated that all the suspects had admitted the crime in their caution statements and were in police custody assisting with investigation.

DCOP Anim said the victims had so far identified the three suspects as those who attacked them.
