3 Police Officers Suspended Over Man’s Death

THREE police officers of the Konongo Divisional Command have been suspended after they were accused of beating a 36-year-old man to death at Adonfe, a town near Bompata in the Asante-Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region.

General Sergeant Suleman Seidu, General Corporal Seth Agbango and G/Lance Corporal Salifu Yakubu are said to have assaulted Kofi Amponsah, a driver, on Monday, October 14, 2019 leading to his untimely death.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the man was working on his faulty car when the officers pounced on him.

A statement released to the media and signed by ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, said the interdiction of the three officers formed part of investigation into the alleged assault on Kofi Amponsah.

The statement explained that nine officers belonging to a taskforce of which the three were part embarked on an operation on the said day.

According to ASP Ahianyo, the three officers were cited to have allegedly assaulted the victim, hence the action taken by the regional command, which has since tasked the Ashanti Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau to institute administrative investigation into the conduct of the officers involved.

The statement assured the general public of an independent investigation and added that the police would inform the public of subsequent development in due course.
