3 Shot Dead Over Cattle

THREE PEOPLE were shot dead at Sekyere Afram Plains District in the Ashanti Region within few days.

The body of the first dead person was found almost in a decomposed state in the district about one week ago.

On Thursday, there were a series of gunshots at Samso – a community in the district – where two other people died.

Mr. Joseph Owusu aka Odenkyem, the DCE for Sekyere Afram Plains, made the disclosure on Nhyira FM.

He suspected that the three deaths might have something to do with the menace of Fulani herdsmen in the district.

Mr. Owusu could not readily give the identities of the deceased persons and what led to their untimely deaths.

He, however, said the Fulani cattle menace, which has been a problem in the area for a long time, might have triggered the deaths.

The DCE noted that some Fulani herdsmen had been sighted with a sizable number of cattle in the district lately.

According to him, he was informed that one person had been shot dead about a week ago. “The body was almost in a decomposed state when we went for it in the bush,” the DC disclosed.

According to him, in the second incident, five people, believed to be herdsmen, came under gun attack on Thursday. He said two of the herdsmen were killed and the three others were missing after the violent attack

Mr. Owusu indicated that two of the three people that were initially declared missing had been found.

According to him, a search is currently ongoing in the district to help find the other missing person. He asserted that the spate of shootings and killings in the area had become a major concern for him and the assembly.

The DCE said that the security capos in the district were scheduled to meet over the recent killings this week.
