The Police in Pokuase have apprehended 33 women suspected to be commercial sex workers at Pokuase near Accra.

The sex workers between the ages of 20 to 35 years, who are mostly foreigners, according the DSP Efia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, were caught ‘soliciting for immoral purposes’ at Pokuase.

The Five-hour exercise , she revealed was led by the Pokuase District Police Command with  support from the Ghana Immigration Service, NADMO, and a task force from the Ga North Municipal Assembly.

She said the municipal assembly also demolished some unauthorized wooden structures being inhabited and used by the sex workers for their unlawful activities.

“The police observed that the structures in which these sex workers resided mostly served as the hideouts for drug peddlers, robbers, and minors who are sexually exploited,” the police said.

DSP Tenge said the suspects will be screened and the foreigners who do not have permits handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further verification and added that “Those found culpable will be arraigned before the law court.”
