4 Jailed 72 Years For Kasoa Robbery, Rape

A circuit court at Awutu Ofaakor in Kasoa in the Central Region has sentenced four men, who gained notoriety for rape and robbery operations they were conducting in the area, to a total of 72 years in prison.

Solomon Quaye alias Cee, 26; Edwin Paa Kwesi, 28; Benjamin Mensah, 22; and Paul Sekyi, 24, committed the heinous crime at Awutu Bereku in the Awutu Senya West District.

In one of their robbery operations, they even brutally raped a pregnant woman.

Awutu Bereku Police Station Officer, Chief Inspector Stephen Tamaklo said the court presided over by Ebenezer Osei Darko sentenced each of the culprits to 18 years in imprisonment in hard labour after being found guilty of robbery and rape.

According to him, the four-member gang went on a robbery spree, having come from Agbogbloshie in Accra, to commit the crimes.

One of the convicts was initially picked up by the police following a tipoff and he led officers to arrest the three others.

They initially pleaded not guilty and the court after full trial passed the sentence to serve as deterrent to would-be offenders.
