President Akufo-Addo and British PM Boris Johnson
A £40 million agreement for the construction of a new terminal at the Kumasi Airport is billed to be initialed this week between British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and President Akufo-Addo.
The pre-financing agreement between the UK and Ghana will be
disbursed after the UK-Africa summit in London.
According to Iain Walker, UK’s High Commissioner
to Ghana who spoke to Joy FM
recently, said the agreement would place Kumasi as a trade destination in
Africa.
“We have invested in two things
particularly the airport extension which means a lot of planes could land there
and also we will be announcing at this summit the building of the new terminal
at Kumasi… it is not about aid but helping to get more investment.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana
on Friday to attend the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London, UK.
The UK-Africa Investment Summit, being hosted by
British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, started yesterday and has brought together
businesses, governments and international institutions to showcase and promote
the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa.
President Akufo-Addo will today deliver the
keynote address at the Ghana Investment Opportunities Summit – a summit which
aims to bring delegates, especially from the UK, to explore investment
opportunities in Ghana.
He will then travel to Davos, Switzerland, at
the invitation of the founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic
Forum, Prof. Klaus Schwab, to participate in the 50th anniversary
celebration of the World Economic Forum Annual Meetings which also starts today
and ends on Friday.
