The mangled Toyota Corolla at the accident scene

FIVE persons have lost their lives following a gory car crash at Juaso-Yawkwei on the main Accra-Kumasi highway at 1pm on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The incident, according to eyewitness reports, occurred when a Toyota salon car crashed head-on with an oncoming cargo truck, which was being driven at top speed.

Among the deceased, is a policeman, who was said to be stationed at Asante Akyem, Agogo. All the dead bodies have since been deposited at the Steward Hospital morgue.

Narrating how the crash occurred, eyewitnesses said the Toyota Corolla, with registration number GW 532-11 and the cargo truck, also registered AW 2808-22, were from opposite directions.

According to them, upon reaching Juaso-Yawkwei, the driver of the cargo truck (name not known) attempted to overtake a vehicle in front of his car.

In doing so, the cargo truck, reportedly, veered from its original lane and crashed head-on with the Toyota Corolla, which was coming from the opposite direction.

The impact of the crash was said to be so strong that it resulted in the instant deaths of four people and severe injuries to another person, who were all in the Toyota Corolla.

Some Good Samaritans rushed to the scene to offer a helping hand, and they realised that four out of the five people onboard the Toyota Corolla had passed on, including a policeman, who was driving the car.

The fifth victim, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was rushed to a nearby medical facility to help save his life, but unfortunately he also died whilst receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, reports suggested that the driver and mate of the cargo truck, who escaped unhurt, have been apprehended by the police and are assisting with investigations.
