5 Fight Over NAPO’s Manhyia South Seat

Five formidable members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have thrown their hats into the ring, zealously set to battle for the Manhyia South seat in the Ashanti Region.

This comes on the backdrop of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s selection as the running mate to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaving a vacant parliamentary spot that has ignited passion and competition within the party ranks.

The opening of nominations on Monday, July 8, saw a flurry of activities as aspirants rushed to secure their nomination forms ahead of the impending showdown scheduled for Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Among the eager contenders are Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, brother of the outgoing Member of Parliament, the astute lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour, James Boakye, Kwasi Koka Gyambibi, and Kwabena Amankwa Antwi – esteemed individuals poised to wrestle the coveted Manhyia South seat.

In a bid to adhere to party protocols, some aspirants delegated representatives to acquire nomination forms while others personally undertook this vital task. The upcoming vetting session slated for Wednesday, July 10, 2024 promises to be a litmus test of each candidate’s mettle and readiness to carry forth the NPP banner in the Manhyia South Constituency.

Notably, the financial aspect of the candidacy process looms large, with each aspiring candidate required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GH₵3,000.00 to signify commitment and dedication to the cause. In a progressive move, the NPP has extended a 50% rebate on filing fees for women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs), recognizing and encouraging their active participation in the political arena.

The race for the NAPO seat promises to be a riveting spectacle brimming with intrigue, ambition, and a relentless pursuit of parliamentary excellence.
