The mangled Taxi Cab
Five persons lost their lives in a gory accident that occurred at Asakae Junction in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region last Saturday.
The five, including two kids, were on board an Opel Vectra taxi with registration number, WR-4957- 12 which was heading towards Asakae from Kwesimintsim.
The accident happened when a tipper truck which was travelling from Aboadze to Elubo, all in the region, crashed into the cab.
Initial reports said that three persons died on the spot while two others in critical condition were rushed to hospital.
According to some eye witnesses, when they got to the scene, they realized that the Tipper Truck had crashed into the taxi with three persons dead.
According to the police, five persons, whose identities are yet to be verified, died in the accident.
Personnel from the regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) were quickly dispatched to the scene to control traffic.
The bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital morgue.
Chief Supt Richard Appiah, Western Regional Commander of MTTD of the Ghana Police Service, confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE, mentioned that on Saturday at about 12:30pm, one Nana Kwame Addison was in charge of Man Diesel Tipper Truck with registration number GE 8305-Z driving from Aboadze to Elubo.
Upon reaching a section of the road at Asakae Junction, the driver in charge of an Opel Vectra Taxi from Kwesimintsim to Asakae crossed the speeding tipper truck.
The tipper truck, in the process, crashed into the cab and the passengers were rushed to Jemima Clinic and Kwesimintsim Hospital.
Five people were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Another person, who was seriously injured, is currently on admission at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.
The driver of the tipper truck Nana Kwame is currently in police custody while the mangled vehicles have been impounded for further investigations.
