Fifty two Ghanaian nationals have been deported from the United States and Saudi Arabia to Ghana, last weekend.
According to the PRO of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Command of the GIS, ASI Barbara Sam, said 40 of the deportees who were from the US, arrived onboard an Omini chartered Boeing 777-OAE 328 aircraft.
The deportees aged between 21-70 and a gender distribution of 38 males and two females were deported for offences such as trafficking in banned substances, assault, vehicle theft, burglary, fraud, domestic violence and immigration related issues.
While 38 of the deportees arrived on travel certificates issued by the Ghana Mission in Washington, DC, two did so, on Ghanaian passports.
The regional distribution of the deportees is 16 from the Greater Accra Region, 10 from the Ashanti Region, two from Bono Region, two from the Western Region, two from Central Region, three from Eastern Region and three from the Volta Region.
Upon arrival they went through disembarkation procedures including screening to authenticate nationalities all in the presence of other security agents including officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who ensured that they were taken to their final destinations.
In a related development 12 Ghanaian females aged between 20 and 30 were deported from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The JHS and SSCE holders arrived aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight all of them holding Ghanaian travel certificates.
The deportees who were engaged as domestic helps, nannies, cleaners, teachers of kids of hosts and fuel attendants in the Arab country complained of working overtime, withholding of salaries by their hosts, maltreatment and poor feeding.
They have since been handed over to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for further action.
