A 70-year-old Nigerian man will spend the next three decades in prison after he was sentenced to serve 30 years jail term for defiling an 8-year-old girl.
Mohammed Sani Umar was sentenced on Friday, July 23, 2020 by a Magistrate Court in Minna, Niger state.
According to a DGN Online source in Nigeria, he was arrested by the police for defiling the young girl twice and giving her N80 to keep quiet.
The incident reportedly occurred in Chanchaga area of the state.
Pleading guilty before the court, Umar who was arraigned on July 23, 2020, claimed that he loved her and that’s why he had carnal knowledge of her.
The presiding judge, Senior Magistrate Safuratu Abdulkareem, then convicted him to 30 years in line with Section 18, Subsection 2 of the Child Right Act (2010) of Niger State.
