7,138 Candidates Sit For BECE In Tema

A total of 7,183 candidates are writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

Out of the aforementioned figure, 3,520 candidates are boys while 3,660 candidates are girls.

They would sit for the exams at 25 centers, which have 250 invigilators, 25 supervisors and 24 assistant supervisors.

At the Sakumono Complex B JHS centre, a total number of 181 candidates sat for the exams.

There were students from 132 private schools and 49 from public schools.

Four candidates failed to take part in the exams at the aforementioned school.

The first paper- English, was scheduled to commence at 9 am, but apparently started at about 9:30am.

At the Presbyterian SHS, a total number of 244 candidates from six schools sat for the BECE.

A candidate, who failed to take part in the exams, was said to have travelled overseas.

Also at Manhean Secondary Technical School, a total number of 203 candidates took part in the exams.

The Metro Director of Education, Margaret Frimpong Kore, expressed her excitement over the peaceful atmosphere at the various centers.

She lauded the level of high professionalism displayed by the various invigilators and supervisors at the centres.

Mrs. Kore admonished candidates to desist from examination malpractices, adding that candidates should not rely on what she termed ‘apor.’

She encouraged the candidates to learn very hard in order to come out with flying colours.

Mrs Kore further asserted that special nurses had been deployed at the various examination centres to tackle any emergency.

Addressing the media, the Chief Executive of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Felix Anang-La, after touring the various centers together with the Metro Director, also entreated candidates to take their studies seriously and come out with good grades.

Mr Anang-La said the qualified candidates would benefit from the free SHS policy after completing JHS as promised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Chief Executive said the assembly would assist the education directorate to champion the cause of students in diverse ways.

He further lauded the efforts of the Metro Director of Education, Mrs Kore in improving education in Tema.
