Information reaching DGN Online indicates that eight persons have died whilst several passengers sustained various degrees of injuries and in critical condition in a road crash at Sawla in the Savannah region.
DGN Online gathered that six passengers died on the spot whilst two others died on admission at the hospital.
The deceased included the drivermate of the accident vehicle one Bashiru Mahama,28.
The bodies of the deceased passengers have been conveyed to the Wa mortuary whilst the injured passengers including the driver are receiving treatment at Sawla district hospital.
A police report stated that on March 18, 2021, the driver of the accident vehicle one Mahama Sakara rushed to the police station at Sawla and reported that he was in charge of Sprinter Benz bus No. As 3022-15 with 23 passengers on board travelling from Wa towards Kumasi.
The police report said on reaching the outskirts of Sawla, the driver alleged a Ssanyoung Mimi bus overtook him and chop box fell from the minibus into his lane causing him to run on it which resulted in the damage of his front tyre causing the vehicle to lose control of the steering wheel resulting in the vehicle veering off the road into a nearby bush.
Meanwhile, police have commenced investigation to ascertain the actual cause of the accident.
