9 Dead In Asawase Jam Stampede

A stampede at a packed Salah jams during Wednesday’s Idr Fitil celebration has led to the death of nine persons at the Asawase Community Centre in the Ashanti region.

Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reported on Adom News that five other people who were injured in the process have been rushed to the Manhyia hospital.

The dead are made up of six females and three males.

It is unclear what might have led to the stampede which occurred around 1am Thursday dawn but Erastus said residents claimed a fight broke out between some people, forcing the programme to stop abruptly with many rushing out.

Some also believe the confusion started because of a power cut in the centre where the party was being held.

According to Erastus, no arrest has so far been made adding that one of the injured is in a critical condition while the other four are responding to treatment.

The police are currently at the scene working to clear the premises.

People are said to have gathered at the scene of the incident to catch a glimpse of the aftermath.
