97 arrested for not wearing face mask

The Accra Regional Police Command in an operation to enforce the wearing of face mask as directed by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has arrested 97 persons, comprising 60 males and 37 females.

The four-hour operation took place at CMB, Farisco, Railways, Tudu and other market places in Accra.

Speaking to journalist after the operation, DSP Afia Tenge Accra Regional Police PRO, said, “The Regional Police command has embarked on a special operation to arrest persons without face mask.

“What we observed is that when these people come to town it is either they have the facemask yet they will not put it on so usually you’ll see them putting the facemask in their bags or in their pockets, adding, we made them buy the face mask if they don’t have to wear them.

“The 97 persons are with the Regional Police Command as we take a decision on them”, she said.

President Akufo- Addo in his 22nd Covid-19 update on Sunday, January 17, 2021 to Ghanaians said he had instructed the IGP to enforce the law on the wearing of facemask.

The President pleaded with the citizenry to wear the mask because it was part of the safety measures that could reduce the spread of the virus.
