Charly Boy
Veteran Nigerian singer and social activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticised Nigerian Christian clerics, claiming that most of them are more focused on making money than standing up for the truth.
Speaking on a recent episode of the KAA Truths podcast, the outspoken entertainer accused pastors of remaining silent amid Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges, while allegedly working with corrupt politicians to exploit the masses.
“All the pastors I know of in Nigeria, 99 per cent of them are useless. It is just a business that they are running,” Charly Boy said.
The Area Fada crooner argued that many clerics have abandoned their moral responsibility to speak truth to power, choosing instead to protect their interests.
Charly Boy also distanced himself from what he described as the general Nigerian mindset, stressing that he does not subscribe to the teachings or influence of such pastors.
“I may live in Nigeria but Nigeria does not live in me. I don’t believe like you. I don’t want to think like you people. I’m not in the same class with you people. I come from a different space and time,” he added.
