The police pick-up that hit the back of the Ford car at Drobo
A police pick-up vehicle with registration number GP 2355, yesterday in the morning injured six passengers in a Ford car with registration number GS 3875-12 at Drobo lorry station in the Jaman South District of the Brong Ahafo Region whilst chasing another car suspected to be carrying Indian hemp, locally known as ‘wee’.
The six injured persons were rushed to the St Mary’s Hospital, Drobo, for treatment. The suspected car carrying the ‘wee’, a Mercedes Benz bus with the registration number GR 3504Y, was eventually arrested with the driver and sent to the Drobo Police Station for further investigations. The police vehicle chasing the vehicle ran into the stationary Ford car from behind at the Drobo lorry park, and the Ford car also subsequently hit another KIA vehicle in front of it, leading to damage to both vehicles.
Speaking to the Jaman South District Police Commander, ASP Stephen Ofori Akrasi on the phone, he confirmed the accident to DAILY GUIDE and said the ‘wee’ vehicle driver, Richard Opoku, aka KB, was arrested and is helping police in their investigations.
Explaining further, he said his outfit had information that the driver was transporting some quantities of ‘wee’ from Sampa in Jaman North District to Sefwi in Western Region, so mounted a road block on a section of the road.
When the vehicle appeared and was signaled to stop, the driver pretended to be stopping, but rather sped off and was given a hot chase and unfortunately ran into the Ford vehicle. He said some quantities of ‘wee’ were confiscated, and the driver arrested.
Further investigations are underway to get to the bottom of the issue.
