Stella N.D. Arthiabah, Registrar of the Architects Registration Council (ARC), has warned unlicensed building design technicians and draughtsmen to acquire licenses by end of September 2017 or face sanctions.
She said that it would be an offence for building design technician, technologist or draughtsman to operate without license by September 2017.
Ms Arthiabah therefore called on all building design technicians, technologists and draughtsmen to contact the ARC office in Accra for registration guidelines for the license.
The registrar made the call at an introductory workshop in Cape Coast to register and categorize building design technicians, technologists and draughtsmen in the country.
The workshop was organized by the National Board of Control for Building Design Technicians & Draughtsmen under the auspices of the Architects Registration Council (ARC) of Ghana and the Ministry of Water Resource Works and Housing (MWRWH).
She said building technicians play a significant role in the development of every nation, adding that a single error on their part could cause a national disaster.
“We are embarking on a road show to sensitize the public on the registration process. We did the first one in Accra which was well attended. We are here in the Central Region and subsequently we will go to Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale and Ho in the Volta Region,” he said.
Ms Arthiabah called on all technologists, building design technicians and draughtsmen in the country to partake in the exercise, adding that individuals who fail to register would not be allowed to practice by September 2017.
