Sick Pensioners Wheeled For Registration In K’dua

Scores of pensioners are stranded at the Apenteng Hall in Koforidua, Eastern Region, following an ongoing headcount/registration exercise by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

The pensioners, some suffering from stroke, had been compelled by the situation to show up and queue at the centre in order to be counted.

Some of them were carried on the backs of family members while others were being assisted in order to cope with the situation.

In an interview with Starr News, some of them lamented, “The situation is very terrible. More than 500 of us queued here, and there is no way they can serve all of us.

“Some of us came as early as 3:30 am and we are still here. I am number 238 and I have no idea when I will leave here and go home. The officials should have devised better means of carrying out this exercise; for example, by using alphabetical order, then you know when it will get to your turn.”

He added, “I am 79 years and I can barely walk. They could have also gone to the houses of those who are bedridden to do it for them; but to allow us to move all the way from the house to come and queue in distress, is in humane.”
