Montie Owners, Jailed Trio Settle Fines

The convicted Montie FM trio, have settled the fine conditions that accompanied their sentencing on Wednesday. The Supreme Court fined the two radio panelists and the host of Montie FM’s ‘Pampaso’ political show, Ghc10, 000 each.

The trio were to spend an additional one month in addition to their four-month sentence, if they failed to pay the fines.

The trio were jailed after they were fined for contempt, following the threats to kill the Supreme Court judges, over their handling of the lawsuit on the credibility of the voters’ register

The four directors of Network Broadcasting Limited, owners of Montie FM; Ato Ahwoi, Edward Addo, Kwesi Kyei Atuah, and Kwesi Bram Addo, have also paid a fine of Ghc30,000. Mr. Harry Zakuor, owner of Zeze media, which owns Montie FM frequency, 100.1, has also paid a separate fine of Ghc30, 000.

The owners were also ordered to provide the court with measures they will put in place to prevent any future occurrence.

Lawyer for the convicted trio, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, confirmed the payment of the fines including that of the owners to Citi News. He said, “we have paid 90,000 cedis to the registry of the court.

We have also complied with the order to furnish the court with the measures that we will put in place to avoid the recurrence of this event. We have complied with these two orders of the court”.

Lawyers hopeful President Mahama will pardon the trio Meanwhile, Edudzie Tamakloe is hopeful President John Mahama will intervene in the numerous calls on him to invoke the constitutional power of mercy to release the three from jail.

Several government appointees and scores of NDC supporters have signed a petition asking the President to free the trio. Even though a formal petition has been sent to the presidency, Mr Tamakloe said they are yet to receive any response.

He however remains optimistic. “It is like a prayer request to the God.

If God decides not to answer your prayer today, he may do it differently tomorrow. In the meantime, you only keep praying until it gets answered”, Edudzie Tamakloe said.
