ANOWAH AFRIQUE Limited, a Tema based garment producing company in collaboration with the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) is organising a training programme for some 200 young ladies on the streets of Ashaiman in garment manufacturing.
The initiative is to give the young ladies opportunity to gain skills, reunite with their families and to be self-sufficient.
Anowah Afrique is a recognised garment manufacturing company which produces garments for the security services, schools, and mining companies among others in the country.
Launching the initiative dubbed ‘Operation Take Our Young Ladies Off The Streets’ in Ashaiman, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Anowah Afrique Limited, Ms. Catherine N. E.A Coffie was optimistic that “the initiative will safeguard the dignity of the young ladies who are our future leaders and mothers or our beloved homeland, Ghana.”
The objective of Anowah Afrique, she explained was the desire to mentor, train and create sustainable jobs for the large numbers of unemployed youth in deprived communities.
According to the CEO, “Over the past 10 years since our company’s inception, Anowah Afrique has trained over 6, 000 young people, many of whom are now employed in garment-making in factories or working for themselves. The mentorship they receive from our management team was a panacea for lifting deprived and unemployed young ladies out of poverty into sustainable jobs and careers ahead.”
With the help of government, she noted, Anowah Afrique will work with the Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies (MMDAs) to salvage the dying hope of the future mothers.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ashaiman, Mr. Ibrahim Baidoo explained that he was excited about such an initiative to take the young ladies out of the streets to equip and train them since Ashaiman has a challenge as far as unemployment is concern.
He promised the assembly’s commitment to ensure the training becomes a reality by providing the necessary support.
Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, the parliamentary nominee for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ashaiman under whose initiative the programme came into fruition urged the youth to take advantage of the programme for a secured future.
