The Assembly member for Ahensan Estate Electoral Area in Kumasi, Nana Yaw Wiredu, says he will not leave the area because of his alleged banishment by the chief of Ahensan, Nana Dwumahene Akoana III.
The assembly member, who is also the chief of Nyamekrom, New Juaben in the Eastern region with the stool name, Nana Kwame Nnuro Agyepong II, stressed that the Ahensan Chief has no legal right to banish him.
Nana Yaw Wiredu, who has won the Ahensan Estate seat for three consecutive times, insisted that he had not offended the Ahensan chief in anyway, adding that about 80 percent of the people also support his good works.
Banishment Order
Nana Dwumahene Akoana III reportedly accused the assembly member of not responding to his calls and misappropriating GH¢25,000 that he (the chief) gave to him to build toilet facility and mechanized borehole with overhead tank.
The angry traditional leader also accused the assembly member of rezoning lands in the area without his approval, adding that the executives of the Residents Association of Ahensan Estate had also called for the ouster of the assembly member.
Nana Dwumahene Akoana III consequently ordered the assembly member to leave the area within 14 days or face the dire consequences for his inaction.
Response
In his response, Nana Yaw Wiredu, who owns a plush house at Ahensan Estate, denied all the accusations leveled against him by the Ahensanhene, insisting that he is a clean person who has championed the development of the area.
He said indeed the Ahensanhene gave him GH¢25,000 in 2012, explaining “the money was meant for a borehole and street lights project, but the money could not construct toilet facility and mechanized borehole with overhead tank.
The assembly member claimed that the Ahensanhene even ordered him to use GH¢1,200 out of GH¢25,000 to purchase a laptop for his (chief) nephew who was schooling at the KNUST at the time.
According to him, the queenmother of Bomso, near Ahensan Estate, also provided GH¢10,000, adding that he added it to the money given by the Ahensan chief to construct two mechanized boreholes with overhead tanks for the area.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Nana Yaw Wiredu said “a certain developer was building a house at an unapproved site so I ordered him to stop but the Ahensanhene got angry and hurled unprintable words at me on phone.”
The Ahensan Assemblyman explained that he stopped responding to the chief’s calls after the insults about one month ago, adding that he has no problem with the Residents Association of the town.
He said the executives of Residents Association in the area became peeved when he asked them to render account on five mechanized boreholes with overhead tanks, including the two that he (assemblyman) constructed whose proceeds were in their possession.
Nana Yaw Owiredu noted that he had on two occasions rendered account of his stewardship to people in his electoral area during mammoth meetings which the executives of the Residents Association blatantly refused to attend.
He also denied claims that he had ordered for the rezoning of lands at Ahensan Estate, indicating that he only sought the expertise of the Lands Commission so that property owners in the area would secure proper documentation.
