Mahama ‘Water Thrower’ in Court

Akwasi Emmanuel

The man who reportedly hurled a sachet of water at President Mahama during his recent ‘accounting to the people’ tour at the Agbogbloshie yam market in Accra on September 15, 2016, has been dragged before an Accra circuit court.

The accused, Akwasi Emmanuel, has been charged for offensive conduct.

Although the case was heard in chambers in a court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, sources claim the plea of the accused was not taken.

According to the source, the court ordered the prosecution to take the accused to the psychiatric hospital for examination to ascertain whether or not he was mentally sound to stand trial.

The paper’s source further hinted that the said substance was yet to be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

This is not the first time President Mahama seems to have incurred the wrath of ordinary citizens who are deemed ‘mentally unfit.’

On July 28, 2015, one Charles Antwi stormed the Ringway Assemblies of God Church – the church of President Mahama – with intent to kill him over what the accused said was his (president’s) bad leadership style.

Charles was subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison by an Accra circuit court – a decision which was reversed by an Accra high court on the grounds that the accused was mentally unstable.

Just as the controversy sparked by that bizarre incident was about to settle, one Kwame Gyebi was arrested and detailed at his residence in Dzowulu, Accra, by operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for saying that President Mahama would die on Independence Day.
