Torphic Alhassan and Kojo Abaasa with blood oozing from their heads and necks
About three New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam (AEE) District of the Central Region were over the weekend nearly killed when some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reportedly attacked them brutally with cutlasses during a meeting at Ajumako Besease.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Torphic Alhassan and Kojo Abaasa had their heads and necks seriously injured while Alex Nyarko sustained some minor injuries.
They were sent to the Ajumako Hospital for treatment and later reported the matter to the Ajumako District police.
This paper can state on authority that the NPP parliamentary candidate was prevented from being stabbed by the angry supporters of the NDC.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the AEE Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Noah Asenso, said the incident happened at about 5:30 pm when the executives of the party were having a meeting with their parliamentary candidate, Ransford Kwesi Nyarko.
Mr Asenso maintained that in the course of the meeting, they saw some supporters of the NDC in a Mahindra pick-up branded with the pictures of President John Dramani Mahama parked in front of the house where the meeting was being held.
He added that the NDC activists, without any provocation, started raining insults on the NPP members, a situation which compelled some of them to rush to the police station to lodge a complaint, but the NDC thugs also followed them to the station to lodge a complaint.
Mr Asenso hinted that some few minutes after the Mahindra had left the scene, a known NDC activist by name Kweku Ananse, with some other colleagues of his, came to block the road leading to the house and attacked some NPP members standing in front of it.
He said the angry NDC members demanded to see the parliamentary candidate (Mr Nyarko) saying, “Where is your candidate? We will kill him if we lay our hands on him. As far as we are concerned, he can never be an MP in this constituency. Why do you want to stop Ato Forson from uplifting the image of Ajumako?”
The secretary noted that some of the people inside the house went outside and locked the gates to deny the irate NDC members entry to kill any of the NPP executives, but the attackers became more incensed and started banging the gate for close to 40 minutes in an attempt to have access into the house.
Mr Asenso disclosed that the NDC supporters managed to smash the vehicle of the parliamentary candidate with registration number GR6761-A and a Kia Rio taxi with registration number CR1668-14 packed in front of the house. They also took away four mobile phones belonging to Mr Nyarko.
No arrests have so far been made.
