A portion of the Commercial StreetÂ
A Bolgatanga based construction firm, My Turn Construction Company on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 started asphalting roads in the city for the first time in many decades to befit its status as a regional capital.
Previously, the entire Upper East Region could not boast of a single good road apart from the ECOWAS trunk road from Tamale through Bolgatanga, Navrongo and Paga to Burkina-Faso.
The roads in the Bolgatanga Municipality were filled with potholes and dusty sections, and anytime residents protest against the Regional Coordinating Council or Government, contracts are quickly awarded for the patching of these potholes.
The road from the Commercial Street through the SSNIT Junction to the Central Mosque, as well as that from the NIB Junction through the Bolga-Naba Palace to the ADB Junction would be asphalted.
The road from the ADB Junction through the New York Street to Maclean Junction would also be asphalted.
In March 2016, Albert Abongo, upon his assumption of office as the Upper East Regional Minister, promised that all the roads in Bolgatanga would be asphalted in April 2016.
The Library Road and the Soe Road have not been tarred so the dust negatively affects people who live along them.
Other untarred roads would be upgraded as soon as possible.
The Navrongo streets have also been asphalted in the run-up to the campaign.
The NDC is likely to face stiff opposition from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the two constituencies, Bolgatanga Central and Navrongo Central.
