Nigerians in Ghana have been charged to conduct themselves well by displaying a high sense of integrity so they do not abuse the hospitality rendered them by their hosts.
In addition, they have been asked to consider each other as brothers and sisters regardless which part of Nigerian they hail from so that they can win the respect of Ghanaians.
C.O. Micheletti, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the All Nigeria Community in Ghana, made these points when he addressed his compatriots during a presidential debate held to elect a new leader for the Nigerian community in Ghana.
He said with the growing number of Nigerians in Ghana, the community needs a selfless, hardworking and patriotic person who would be able to carry all Nigerians along in the country.
“Ghana has proven to be a good home to majority of us and we should have the greatest respect for Ghanaians in order to win their confidence,” Micheletti said.
In a keenly contested debate, the two presidential candidates – Ohwaro, the incumbent, and Kaycey Ogboana, kept the delegates on their toes with the way they answered questions posed to them by the panelists.
The two were able to convince the delegates that they are capable of leading the Nigerian community in Ghana, with the assurance that they will be there for all Nigerians.
Among prominent Nigerians present at the debate were Asaolu Albert Bayo, immediate past president of the All-Nigeria Community in Ghana, Dr Mrs Favour Gowon, Dr Toritsegh Thorpe and Eze Chukwudi Ihenatu, head of Ibos in Ghana.
